About Bega Lagoon
Beqa (pronounced as bengga) Lagoon stretches out directly in front of the township of Pacific Harbour. It is one of the largest lagoons in the south pacific and has an area covering over 100 square kilometers and is internationally renowned for its crystal clear waters, colourful coral reef systems and the abundance of exotic tropical fish species.
Beqa Island was formed by volcanic uplift and has an area of 36 sq. kms of rugged and stunning beauty, it has an outer barrier reef system that stretches for over 68kms to enclose the exquisite waters around the island. This wonderful lagoon and its reef systems ensure that we have access to a multiple selection and variety of corals, reef formations and associated marine life.
This natural barrier reef structure is the reason that we can provide our guests with pristine reef viewing opportunities regardless of wind, current and the occasional sediment outflows from rivers and creeks that usually affects the water clarity and visibility on most other coral reef systems.
